How to Run a Discord Giveaway Without Confusing Members
Confusing giveaways get fewer entries and more complaints. Before you start, write down the prize, who can enter, how long it runs, how many winners there are, and exactly where and when results appear. Then run it with /giveaway create, which takes a title, description, duration, and winner count.

Define the prize and realistic rules
Name the exact prize (role, item, or code — not “something good”) and who can enter: which roles, what account age, and whether staff can join. Put eligibility in the giveaway description itself so latecomers see it without scrolling. If a prize has real-world value, confirm you can actually deliver it before announcing.
Pick duration and winner count
Match duration to prize size: hours for small perks, several days for big prizes. Set the winner count up front — one winner for exclusive prizes, more for participation rewards. Longer is not always better; entries stall after the first few days, so announce a clear end time.
Avoid duplicate entries
ARK Bot counts one entry per member and ignores duplicates automatically, so do not invent bonus-entry schemes members cannot verify. Say so in the announcement (“one entry each — extra clicks don't help”) to cut support questions and alt-account temptation.
Explain the selection process
Tell members how winners are picked before the draw: automatic draw when time runs out, announced in the same channel. Publish the criteria (eligible roles, entry window) alongside, so anyone can check the result was fair.
Announce and verify winners
When the giveaway settles, winners are announced in the channel. Ping winners once, give a claim window (for example 48 hours), and state what happens to unclaimed prizes. Verify eligibility quietly before handing over anything of value, and congratulate publicly after.
If a draw is interrupted, be honest
Outages happen. If the bot goes offline mid-giveaway, say so in the channel, extend the duration if needed, and let the draw settle when service returns. Use /giveaway status to inspect stored delivery state. Staff may reroll an ended giveaway with /giveaway reroll, but should review any uncertain delivery before attempting another announcement.
Common mistakes
- Vague prizes (“mystery reward”) that suppress entries.
- Changing rules mid-giveaway after entries exist.
- Running the draw in a channel half the server cannot see.
Conclusion
Clear prize, clear rules, stated duration and winner count, announced results. Run it with /giveaway create and your members will trust the next one too.
